About Beijing Capital Airport

In 1958, Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) had a single runway and a small terminal. Several major upgrades and refurbishments have transformed the airport into a modern, state-of-the-art facility with three runways. One of the airport's three terminal buildings is the second largest in the world. Each year, this gateway to China serves over 78.5 million passengers. BCIA is an eco-friendly facility located 20 miles from the city. It is the first Asia-Pacific Region airport to simultaneously operate two control towers, three runways and three terminal buildings.

Inside Terminal 3, airport patrons will find an indoor green space that is inspired by Summer Palace and other imperial gardens. Airport employees allow passengers to feed the fish that inhabit the garden ponds. The inter-terminal tramline is designed as an underground garden so that passengers can view the floral designs as they ride the mini-train. There are numerous Chinese art and architectural displays. Passengers can enjoy singing, dancing and magic show performances by the Staff Art Troupe.

The airport has a wide selection of retail shops and luxury boutiques. There is a "global kitchen" where passengers can enjoy western or eastern influenced dishes that range from fast food to fine dining. In addition to duty-free venues, passenger amenities include banking facilities, a children's activity center and complimentary charging stations for electronic devices. An advanced network of roads, subways and rail lines, as well as three parking garages and a bus station supports the airport.

BCIA is served by over 70 airlines, including carriers that operate the new Airbus 380. The airport has received accolades for quality and service from Condé Nast Traveler magazine and Airports Council International. Beijing Capital International Airport continues to provide excellent customer service as it adapts to meet the requirements of an evolving aviation marketplace.
